ITS Info-communications Forum

The ITS Info-communications Forum continues to contribute to the realization of world's most safe, environment - friendly and economical road traffic society by utilizing Information and Communication Technologies.

Greetings from the Chairman

Shinichi Sasaki

ITS Info-communications Forum is formed by around 100 cross-industrial private and government related organizations involved in the promotion of ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) to accelerate R&D and standardization of the ITS info-communications systems as well as their promotional activities. Since its establishment in 1999, the Forum has generated practical results including standards of DSRC (Dedicated Short-Range Communications), 700MHz band ITS, and 79GHz high-resolution radar.

Currently, VICS (Vehicle Communication and Information System) and ETC (Electronic Toll Collection system) as ITS basic applications as the road traffic systems and are contributing to enhanced mobility of people and goods, however, our road traffic systems are still faced with many challenges such as providing solutions to reduce the number of traffic accidents and congestion as well as developing low-carbon transport systems.

In those situations, the "Declaration on the Creation of the World's Most Advanced IT Nation" which the Cabinet approved in 2013 suggested the directions of world highest level IT utilization toward realization of safe, secure and comfortable nation's living life.

Under the strategy, ITS is designed to aim at the realization of world's most safe, environment-friendly and economical road traffic society where traffic accident risk and traffic congestion are avoided, safe and trusted and smooth transportation are available even for such as the elderly people by utilizing ITS technology including automated driving.

We will continue to consider the communication system required for the automated driving, and promote R&D and standardization on the ITS info-communication system as well as their dissemination and public awareness activities, and activities aimed at international harmonization of ITS spectrum.
Let's work together toward future ITS info-communication society.
